Intern Testimonies

“If you want to grow in your love for the Lord, the local church, and the lost, intern at One Hope. Not only will you gain practical wisdom and experience in urban ministry, your mind, heart, and hands will be “stretched” for the glory of God.  Sometimes serving is the best way to learn about God and His people. A summer in Tulsa definitely did that for me and I encourage anyone who wants to love God more and better love those inside and outside the church to serve at One Hope.”
Amy Witt, Sophomore at Boyce College

“For the first time in my life, things that I used to just hear about on the news were things that were part of my life. The city of Tulsa is hurting, and I saw it firsthand this summer living in the inner city. The beauty of it all is that north Tulsa has hope; we serve a God who loves to eat with sinners and so should we. I was impacted by it so much because all my life I had been living my selfish sheltered life when reality is the things we see on the news are real, and those people will go to hell if the Lord doesn’t bring them to repentance and draws them to Himself. Thankful how God used interning in my life this summer: how could I just sit here when people are lost and going to hell? We got to go out and love those who can’t love us back.”
Katherine Hodge, Junior at Louisiana Tech University

“As an athlete, I was thankful to have the opportunity to use the skills God has given me, not just as a way to teach kids about sports but as a way to become part of their lives and have an opportunity to share the truth with them.”
Malachi Blankenship, Senior at the University of Tulsa

“Interning has impacted my life greatly by giving me opportunities to minister that I wouldn’t have been able to otherwise. I realized that knowledge of God and of His Word mean little in the grand scheme of things. I could have a lot of faith in the power of God, and a great understanding of what He has called me to as an individual follower of Him, but I need ways to put that faith and understanding into practice. The intern program gives young believers the ministry opportunities needed to bolster a life of faith which is characterized by works of love. The tasks of ministry placed before me stretched me spiritually, excited me about the things of God, and have greatly encouraged me to live in such a way the rest of my life, wherever I may be.”

Joshua Yochim, Sophomore at Tulsa Tech Community College

“God will change you in ways that you don’t even expect. He will use interning to the shape your goals, desires, and plans for your life. He will increase your joy in His Word, your love for His people, and your reverence for Him. You will be a part of a church family that loves you and cares for you deeply even after interning finishes for the summer – even if you are a thousand miles away! Also, you will gain valuable potential employment skills in various areas – education, event planning, administration, fund raising, leadership, and more.”
Courtney Martin, Law Student at University of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law

“Interning is a whirlwind adventure filled with so many blessings. It is about loving and serving children from the inner city who need the hope of the gospel along-side other believers who have a strong passion for Jesus. It is a chance to mentor, tutor, play with, and pray for children who may not know what the love of Jesus looks like. It is learning how to take Jesus’ life ministry, in Isaiah 61:1 (The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound) and make it your own.”
Jessica Fesler, Junior at Collin County Community College

“Interning is an incredible opportunity to explore what urban ministry looks like in the context of the local church. Interns are involved in practical ministry through tutoring, sports programs, evangelism, and church ministries, while simultaneously intensively studying the Bible and participating in prayer times and book discussions with church members, staff, and other interns. This approach means that you are able to immediately put into practice the things that God is convicting you about or calling you to, and that the work is never just work but is always put in the greater context of living for God’s glory in everything you do.”
Jillian Hazel, Graduate from The Master’s College

“Interning helped me see that my relationship with the Lord isn’t about me. It’s about God, His glory, and ministry.”
Alissa Hill, Graduate from Ouachita Baptist University

“In addition to the massive blessing of being given a true family through interning (whose bond I share is truly closer than that of flesh and blood), the influence interning has had on my life can be summarized in two words: Truth exampled.”
John Supica, Graduate from the University of Tulsa

I have been impacted by the ways that people around me give their lives away for the cause of the gospel. Which motivates me to seek to give myself away more as well. This is Christianity lived out to in the inner-city of Tulsa. That’s basically it!”
Tyler Brown, Graduate from The Master’s College

“Interning has impacted me simply because of growth. Christ has just revealed His beauty each and every day to me and kept me learning more about Him. I have built relationships, not only from the interns, but from the kids also and that has just allowed me to see the Glory of Christ and what He does.”
Tremayne Russ, Sophomore at LSU Shreveport

“Interning this summer taught me how to roll with the punches. It taught me how to love more openly and more specifically. I think interning helped me grow up a little. I feel, somehow, more prepared to take on the challenge of living in my bubble at the Christian university I attend. This summer, I learned how faithless I often am and having something like that made obvious to you, makes you strive harder to overcome it. I hope, if anything, I’ve learned how to try to have a more faithful heart.”
Abigail Ray, Junior at Southwest Baptist University
